The same way the HERs Index rates energy-efficiency, the WERS Index measures water efficiency.

If you’ve heard of net-zero homes, it usually refers to energy- efficient homes that rank zero (which is good) on the HERS Index. Now, there’s a similar rating system for water.
According to Energy Vanguard, the Green Builder Coalition cooperated with Build Green New Mexico, Santa Fe Area Home Builders Association, and members of the City of Santa Fe Water Conservation Committee to create software that indicates how efficiently a home uses water.
The rating system is named, fittingly, the WERS Index, which stands for Water Efficiency Rating Score.
